A Message from the President

Over the past eight decades, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) has forged community alliances as a way of demonstrating our commitment to helping build healthy communities. This year, I’d like to highlight the success of two of our strongest community partnership programs.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Families

We are in the second year of a three-year commitment to Healthy Kids, Healthy Families, and continue to work toward the goal of improving the health status of at least 1 million children by focusing on four key areas: nutrition education, promoting physical activity, preventing and managing disease, and supporting safe environments. It’s one of the strongest tools we have to help children and their families get healthy and stay healthy. Through the program, we offer grants to community partners that understand their neighborhoods and have a track record of solving community problems.

Caring for Children Foundation

We support the Caring for Children Foundation by providing 100 percent of the funding needed for the Foundation’s administrative expenses so that every additional dollar donated can be dedicated to immunizations and health care services. This year, the Foundation’s Care Van® Program celebrated a major milestone: it gave its one-millionth free immunization since the program began in 1997.

It’s exciting to know that one million vaccines have been provided to kids who may not have otherwise received immunizations.

As you will see in this year’s Social Responsibility Report, our goal is to continue to foster community health improvements through alliances with local nonprofit organizations to offer sustainable, measurable programs that strengthen and enrich Texas communities.
